# Sync extract

> Wait for a single-document extract in one HTTP request.

Sync extract uploads **one** file, waits for processing (up to about 60 seconds), and returns the document snapshot in the response.

## When to use it

* Interactive tools that need an immediate answer
* Single-document files only

Do **not** use sync extract for multi-document PDFs or bulk uploads — use [async upload](/guides/async-upload) instead.

## Call

`POST /api/v1/queues/{queueId}/extract` with multipart field `file`. Optional: `documentTypeKey`, `documentCount` (must be 1 if set).

## Webhooks

Sync extract does **not** send webhooks. Read the response body for status and `documents` / `resultJson`.

## Timeouts

If processing exceeds the wait window, the response may indicate `timedOut: true`. Poll with the returned `fileId` or use async upload next time.
