# Channels and intake

> Configure intake channels, routing, email, and webhook overrides.

A channel is how files enter Documate for a business.

## Channel ID for the API

Every channel has an ID. Partner API paths use it as `queueId`:

`POST /api/v1/queues/{queueId}/files`

Copy the ID from the channel page in the app before calling the API.

## Document type routes

Map each document type to an agent. After the first upload, routing may lock until you unlock it — unlock only when you intend to change mappings.

## Email intake

You can mint channel or agent mailboxes and optionally restrict senders with an allowlist. Emails that pass the allowlist become files on that channel.

## Webhooks on a channel

Channels can inherit business webhook defaults or override URL, secret, and subscribed events. See [Integrations and events](/guides/integrations).
